Hi, I’m Mary, an Australian artist who has developed a focused practice around stylised and impressionist figurative works, still life and the occasional landscape. My practice is built on my struggle to find the perfect vintage-inspired pieces for my interiors! I have studied the techniques, recurring motifs, imagery and frame pairings that capture the attention of artists and art collectors drawn towards eclecticism and timelessness in interior spaces. I am also thrilled whenever I can bring client memories and captured moments into stylised pieces to be cherished.
As a full-time mother and artist who put down the tools of a busy corporate life, my journey into painting really began with a deep desire to honour the beauty of the everyday. I began to relate differently to my surroundings after children showed me a new way of slowing down, and I began to crave the beauty and personality-drenched interiors that felt right at home, mirroring family and personalities. I now create pieces with rich palettes, vivid movement, storytelling, and bespoke, thoughtful framing integral to each artwork, with interiors in mind.
Whilst primarily self-taught through exploration and imitation of masterworks, I have also received great opportunities to develop my drawing and art practice at both the Julian Ashton Art School and the Victorian Artists Society. I continue to develop my practice through an interdisciplinary approach to combine technical oil painting, storytelling informed through art history, applied art theory and interior design.
